PARADOX
A seemingly contradictory statement
that may nonetheless be true.

Space object

Can anyone identify what caused the unusual red object caught on picture 0182.

On 24-9-2011 at approximately 22-15 whilst photographing the international space station passing over north Wales I also caught something else on the image.
The camera was pointing roughly west and at about 60 degrees elevation.

The image 0182 25pc has a red circular object in the top centre of the image,
As I am at a loss to explain what it is perhaps you could publish the images and ask the question 'what could cause this'.

There are 3 pictures capturing the space station and they also serve as information that the camera setting are the same, only the length of the exposure changes.

The space station is the white line seen on all pictures but the red circular object is the unexplained object, it appears only on the one image.

If you zoom in on any of the white dots (stars) a small motion trail can be seen, this us caused by the movement/rotation of the earth during a long exposure photograph.
There appears to be no motion blur from the red object

I have cut out and enhanced the object - xx 1 and xx 2

Relevant camera settings can be seen as data stored with each photograph, the photographs were taken using a tripod. The camera used is a Nikon D5000, standard Nikon DX AF-S 18 - 55mm lens on wide angle.

A higher resolution version of the images exist.

Have you seen anything like this before or can you offer any explanation?

please contact me if you require any further details, I hope someone can explain the unusual object.
